About Hank
Hank is on a mission to create a community where adults 55+ can find their people, and we’re investing in: technology that helps our users connect in person, expanding our reach to new markets and more members, and building the systems that will allow Hank to be a lasting solution to age-related loneliness.

Social connection is a critical factor in health, happiness, and longevity. Yet our social circles start declining after the early age of 25, leaving one in three older adults feeling lonely and isolated. Hank is the only platform designed specifically for adults 55+ to make virtual connections that translate into real world friendships. By bringing together users based on location, age, common interests, and a shared motivation to make friends, Hank eliminates the challenges of making in-person connections after 55 and helps users build their social circles with ease.

We have raised seed funding from General Catalyst and Resolute Ventures, and are alumni of AARP Innovation Labs’ accelerator program. With thousands of members, hundreds of interest-based groups, and numerous get-togethers to date, Hank is rapidly growing. We currently operate in New York, New Jersey, and Los Angeles. About the role
As we grow to achieve our mission, we are looking for mission-driven engineers to contribute to our development efforts and help shape the future of our platform.

Some of the things you’ll do

  • Collaborate with design, product, and other engineers to craft performant and intuitive consumer-facing web applications that motivate seniors to form in-person connections
  • Work closely with marketing and other stakeholders to improve our marketing site and SEO footprint
  • Partner with design on the strategy for our UI component systems and continual improvements to existing components

We use Typescript, React, Go, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, BigQuery, and some other things, too. We will never be dogmatic about tech choices -- as the business and the needs of the product grow we are open to adopting new languages and frameworks.

About you

  • 4+ years of experience building software in a production setting
  • Experience with web (React, Typescript) and mobile app (React Native) development
  • Up-to-date on HTML/CSS/JS standards
  • Excited to collaborate with non-engineer teammates to envision features and solutions
  • Empathy towards the needs of users who may be dissimilar from yourself
  • Comfort with working independently to design, build, and ship features that delight users both internally and externally

We do not require, but will get excited if you:

  • have experience with web accessibility standards
  • have DevOps experience, particularly InfoSec and with cloud based services like Google Cloud Platform
  • have experience with marketing engineering work (SEO optimization, email marketing)

This is a full-time role based anywhere in the US. The role will ask you to work Eastern Time Zone business hours (some flexibility). You will have the option to work from our New York office but many team members work remote.
